sac-compressed

It is located 2km away from the city of Cusco. This architectonic complex occupies the edge of the northern slope of the city. It was built with huge carved rocks jointed with absolute accuracy. It is undoubtedly and astounding sample of the Incas military architecture. It is considered a must-visit destination.

This remarkable and unforgettable place is a real evidence of how surprising the Incas worked with stones. Sacsaywaman is usually described as a fortress since it is enclosed by 3 slopes. However, the fact that the Incas constructed a fortress in this place is unusual. The main wall is formed by stones that reach the 5 mt. of height and 2,5 mt of width and can weight between 90 and 125 metric tons. Moving these stones was a real feat, as well as the perfect adjustment among them. The cut of these hard rocks is another mystery that so far no one has given an answer to.
